Demons

Demons are nonhuman, evil beings that exist on the planet to do wrong. They are evil by nature. The very essence of their existence is to spread evil on the Earth. There must always be a balance between good and evil, angels and demons.

There are no good demons.

[edit] Misconceptions

These demons have no Satan or specific leader of any kind. They are not fallen angels. They don’t all have deep, booming voices, wicked smiles, sharp horns, and black eyes. Each demon has their own personality, their own agenda, and their own physical appearance (but they all appear to be human). Demons make mistakes, and some of them may even have a few, heavily construed morals. They may hate liars, but think killing people is fun!

They are not immortal. Their skin is nearly as breakable as human skin.

They will bleed. They will die.

[edit] Physiology

Demons are basically the opposite of angels in their physiology. Until adolescence, they are human in every appearance. Either both of their parents are demons, or one parent is demon and the other is human, in which case, there is a 50% chance that they will become a demon. There are no half-human demons. However, there are half demon, half angels called Nephilim.

At the age of sixteen, demons go through the incredibly painful process of having their organs, mind, body, and very blood change into that of a demon. The process lasts only 4-7 hours, much shorter than the process to become an angel, but much more painful. Shortly after the transformation, the demon instinctively knows what kind of demon they are.

Demons look human on the outside, but they are not. They age much slower by twenty to twenty five years in, and although they are not immortal, they can live until they are 500 years old (most don’t make it that long). This is significantly shorter than an angel’s potential lifespan. However, there are many more demons on the planet than angels so it counteracts this imbalance.

The normal temperature of a demon is 110-120 degrees Fahrenheit, and their normal resting pulse rate is 80-90 bpm. Demons can go without breathing, but only for thirty minutes. When they do breathe, they take in twice the amount of oxygen as humans do, and thus release twice the amount of carbon dioxide.

Their blood is black and thick like oil. Like angels, they have wings that they can hide in their backs underneath a mark of some kind - a birthmark, a scar, a tattoo, etc.

The body temperature in demons in a state of sexual arousal falls to approximately human standards.

[edit] General Abilities

Demons have much of the same abilities as angels. They are faster and stronger than humans. Most demons are stronger than the average angel as well, but angels are faster and more nimble. They recognize different species, except angels, who will appear human to them initially (unless it's a Neqa'el demon). If a demon spends enough time with an angel, eventually the mask will waver and they will come to recognize the truth.

Demons, also, have wings of any shape, color, and size. They are most powerful when their wings are out, when their wings are hidden within their skin a tattoo or scar remains on the back to represent the wings being there.

[edit] Types

[edit] Neqa'el (The Ruler)

Their counterpart is the First Angels. They control the demon corporations and are in charge of large plans for the species as a whole, recruiting other demons and supernatural humans to help them. They have strong psychic powers, which are most effective against other demons and weak-minded humans. These powers are generally used to make others do their bidding. While they can't influence thoughts, they can cause severe amounts of pain by merely thinking it. They are the only type of demon that can recognize angels immediately, but they tend to be less kill-happy than most other demons, always looking to the bigger picture.

The Neqa’el tend to be 400-500 years old. At age 350, they lose whatever previous calling they had and become a Neqa’el. These demons are the most rare. Only 20 exist on the planet.

[edit] Behemoth (The Monster)

Conqueror of the land. These demons have the power to become monsters. The look, size, and style of the monster depends on the demon itself, on their personality, own desires, or simple chance. Some look like they came directly from a horror movie or a dark fairy tale, others look like a rabid animal, still others look hardly monstrous at all. Many of these demons have very weak control over it and can accidentally transform when very emotional. For instance, extreme anger, sadness, fear or even love can cause a transformation.

When in their monster state, Behemoths have complete control over what they do, but they have a stronger bloodlust in this form and can, generally more accurately recognize other species, their senses increased in their inner form.

[edit] Charun (The Escorter)

There is a reason that these demons are named after this Greek mythological figure. Charun's sole responsibility in the underworld was to lead people to the afterlife, to the clutches of death, which no one (good or bad) could escape. These demons lead people to their deaths. Either by killing them, influencing them down a dangerous path, poisoning, etc. It's all about the eventual death.

They don't usually take delight in torture, however, or making the death drag out.

In many ways, they are the opposite of the guardian angel. Many charuns go through life, normally even, until they set their gaze on someone and know, in that instant, that this is their next victim. They generally stay within range of this victim until the death is accomplished.

[edit] Glaysa-Labolas (The Influencer)

Evil empaths. They can sense the emotions of others and influence them with their minds. These demons can incite love, lust, and hatred in others. The most powerful of the Glaysa-Labolas can bring a human, even an angel, to violence. Their biggest fault is that they not only sense the emotions, but tend to feel these emotions themselves, and they cannot hear thoughts, only feel the emotion behind them.

It can be distracting and young Glaysa-Labolas especially have difficulty focusing and drowning the other noise out.

How much they are able to influence someone has a lot to do with not only the strength of the demon, but the strength of who they are trying to influence. Humans are the easiest to influence, then supernaturals, and finally angels. Many demons have to work on an individual for a while and their style or way of influencing depends on the individual. Some use sexual advances, some can remain at a distance, and others only have to say a few words.

[edit] Południca (The Disease)

A sickness. This demon is rare, but has the ability to make people sick, either in mind or in body. The most powerful of the Poludnicas can cause an epidemic. Of course, such power comes with a price. The more they use it, the more sickly they become themselves. They can wait between using their power and become healthy again, but the strength it would take to start an epidemic would most likely kill the demon that started it.

Yes, it was a demon that started the Black Death, so stop blaming the rats.

[edit] Rakshasa (The Warrior)

Fighters. They are the demon versions of archangels. They are the strongest of the demons, always more muscled and fit for fighting than other demons. They live to kill. Angels are their specific prey, but they will happily hunt anyone else who gets in their way or who just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They enjoy bloodshed and killing, and they love a challenge.

It's all about the physical pain for them.

[edit] Temeluchus (The Tormentor)

Torturers. They can look into the mind of others, but they can only see their fears, their bad memories, their pain, and then they can use that against them. Temeluchuses cause visions, dreams, and nightmares. They enjoy torturing and some take great delight in the originality of the way they’ve caused torment on another person. On rare occasions, a Temeluchus resolves to use violent measures to exact their torture, but for the most part, they tend to prefer seeing how much emotional/mental torture they can exact on their victim.

[edit] Afreet (The Inferno)

Fire demons. These can trigger an intense change in their metabolism and physical hardiness, raising their body temperature to extremes high enough to set fire to anything flammable around them--gas, alcohol, clothing, buildings, people. While channelling this, they are immune to heat. However, doing so wears them down very quickly--an Afreet would be hard-pressed to keep it up for a minute without passing out utterly, and would need massive quantities of high-calorie food to replenish their stores of energy--and only with age and long practice comes the ability to focus and control the power, so as to do things like directing heat into one hand and not burning off all of their clothing.
