[edit] Appearance

With red hair (thanks to Clairol Natural Instincts haircolor -- naturally, she's just a dirtyish blonde) and hazel eyes, Amber's heard the phrase "cute as a button" enough times that she might just kick the next person who says it in the shins. She really is, though. Most often, she'll pick comfortable over fashionable... Who actually has time to read ten billion magazines to find out what color eyeshadow is in this week? But she's still got a weakness for bright, happy colors and whatever strikes her as cute.

[edit] Personality

Amber would consider herself a pretty normal girl, except for that whole Earth Elemental thing. For the most part, she's pretty cheerful and down-to-earth, and doesn't freak out easily. Considering all that's been happening in Chicago lately, this is a good thing.

She's one of those chronically nice people who gives money to homeless people, chats with strangers at the bus stop, and helps strangers in need. Oh, she can be a bitch when the situation calls for it, but most often, she's the one getting into the middle of fights and telling everyone to just calm down. She still hasn't quite figured out that this doesn't help much. She's also managed to avoid going completely boy-crazy... Boys are sometimes okay, more often exasperating, and while they're nice to look at, she's got way too much stuff going on in her life to consider dating.

Among her friends, she's "the smart one", and occasionally "the goody-goody" when she won't let them copy her homework. She actually likes science, which gets her some weird looks, but, on the teenage coolness scale, this is balanced out by the fact that she has her own electric guitar, which she's really good on (and is no slouch at Guitar Hero, either, though she'll be the first to tell you they are so not the same thing).

When not living the life of just another high school student/would-be rock chick, she gardens -- as much as she can in a fifth-floor apartment. Windowboxes in every single window, and the narrow balcony of the apartment is full of assorted pots. Her parents just may kill her if they trip over another bag of soil, but she's happy.

She's got a strong aversion to eating meat, but hasn't managed to go vegetarian yet. Stupid parents.

[edit] History

Once upon a time, there was a perfectly normal girl who lived in a perfectly normal Chicago apartment with her perfectly normal parents and little brother. And life was good.

Okay, maybe her little brother (eight years old and prone to going through her stuff) got on her nerves. But she loved him anyway, and loved her parents, who were cool enough to buy her a guitar for her thirteenth birthday, and who let her dye her hair, as long as it wasn't too freaky-looking. Okay, yeah, they still made her eat meat. But she could live with that, even if she did make faces every time she had to eat meatloaf.

And then the earthquake hit. And she... did something. Screamed No and Stop in her head, and told the ground beneath the building to hold together, to calm down... And it did. Just like that. Her building was the only one on the block left undamaged.

Since then, weird things have been happening with her potting soil, this journal's shown up by her bed that seems to be writing in itself, and she's just a little bit weirded out.
